Become a SPUR

Special Project Union Rep

Are you ready to take your union involvement to the next level? The UFCW 367 SPUR (Special Project Union Representative) Program is a unique opportunity for rank-and-file members to step up, get trained, and make a lasting impact on their union and community.

What is the SPUR Program?

The Special Project Union Representative (SPUR) Program is a paid internship for UFCW 367 members seeking to enhance their leadership and organizing skills.

Selected members take a Union-approved leave of absence from their employer for 90 days or more and work directly with UFCW 367 staff.

During the program, SPURs receive hands-on training in organizing, advocacy, and member representation.

When the assignment ends, participants return to their regular jobs with the same wages, hours, benefits, and position, now equipped with greater confidence and proven leadership abilities.

  • The SPUR Program is open to UFCW 367 members who are ready to grow as leaders and strengthen our union.

You may be a great fit if you:

    • Care about worker power and want to help fellow members win stronger contracts and better workplaces

    • Enjoy connecting with people, from co-workers to community allies, and aren’t afraid to start conversations

    • Like problem-solving and organizing, whether it’s planning events, mapping a campaign, or supporting members

    • Are curious about a career in union or community organizing and want real-world experience

If you’re passionate about making a difference and ready to build new skills while strengthening UFCW 367, this program is for you.

  • SPURs work independently or alongside Union Representatives and Organizers in a wide variety of activities, such as:

    • Educate non-union workers about the benefits of union membership

    • Plan and participate in organizing blitzes to grow union power

    • Provide representation and membership services to fellow members

    • Engage in issue-based community and political efforts

    • Attend city council meetings, rallies, and press events to advocate for workers’ rights

This real-world experience gives SPURs the tools to strengthen both UFCW 367 and their own workplaces.

  • Every SPUR receives hands-on training designed to build confidence, sharpen communication skills, and develop leadership abilities.

When the program ends, you return to your job with the same wages, hours, benefits, and position you had before—now equipped with:

    • Stronger organizing and advocacy skills

    • A deeper understanding of union operations

    • Greater power and ability to lead in your workplace
