Exciting News for Our Tacoma Members! GRIT 2.0, is a groundbreaking project designed to support low-income, single-head-of-household families in Tacoma with no-strings-attached cash gifts. GRIT 2.0, also known as the Guaranteed Income Project, is a 12-month cash gift program aimed at boosting the financial security of families in our community. Through a partnership with the Washington State Economic Services Administration, the City of Tacoma, Pierce County Government, and United Way of Pierce County, GRIT 2.0 offers much-needed support to those who need it most. Starting March 1, 2024, families can apply to participate in GRIT 2.0. If selected, participants will receive a guaranteed cash gift of $500 per month for 12 months. These funds are provided with no strings attached, allowing families to use the money in whatever way best meets their needs. This press conference will feature remarks from UFCW 367 President Michael Hines, WSLC President April Simms, Senator Yasmin Trudeau, Tacoma City Council Position 3: Jamika Scott, Tacoma for All Campaign Manager Ty Moore, Tacoma for All Volunteer Coordinator Ann Dorn. Discussion will include how the recent elections will impact Tacoma and UFCW 367 members. The speakers will also outline plans for the future and how together we will continue to advance the mission of the workers and community in the grit city. We invite all UFCW 367 members, Tacoma citizens, and media to attend this important event. UFCW Local 367 supports Initiative 1 because we believe that our members and all Tacoma residents deserve affordable housing. Initiative 1 will help tenants push back against excessive rent hikes and other predatory tactics committed by out-of-state, corporate landlords. The landlord lobby is pushing back and trying to get Tacomans to vote against their best interests – but we won’t let them! Our members are speaking up and voting YES on Citizens Initiative Measure No. 1 and a Tenants Bill of Rights! Join us and vote YES by November 7th!
